Bob Guck, Business Administrator

Bob Guck

If it’s church business, then it’s Bob’s business. Leading the Administration Staff, Bob carefully oversees the management of Finances, Stewardship, Facilities, Human Resources, and Media Resources in a deliberate, yet relational manner.

Bob’s formal training started in music. He studied at the US Navy School of Music and Northwestern College. It wasn’t until later that God turned his ship toward nonprofit business and financial management. Bob’s entry into ministry was as Men’s Program Director, and later as Vice President at a ministry in South Minneapolis where he served for 17 years before answering the call to serve at Open Door.

Raised in a Catholic home, Bob’s search for a personal God took many forms, including mysticism and metaphysics. After kicking over all the rocks without finding what he was looking for, he turned from that, and Jesus found him instead. His time at Northwestern Bible College came soon after, and God has been using his heart and mind in vocational ministry for 29 years now, 12 of those at Open Door.

Noticing possible parallels between Open Door’s journey and Israel’s during the time of Moses, Bob identifies with a very human Moses. “He was the only man that knew the Lord face to face. He lived, struggled, complained, failed, and yet was obedient and doggedly accomplished God’s purpose, in God’s time and God’s way.”

Bob and his wife Glenda met and married in Seattle in 1970, while Bob was in the Navy band. They have two grown daughters, Teresa and Sacha.

Bob’s musical life is alive and well. He can be found playing bass in various jazz groups around town and on occasion, as part of the worship band at Open Door. He says the mix of music and business administration keeps his left and right brain in balance. He also loves sailing and has sailed Lake Superior, the east and west coasts of Florida, and several Minnesota lakes. Bob says sailing is a great teacher of life lessons and is rich in spiritual applications, as a tangible reminder that, “As we trust and allow Him to guide us, the power of His Spirit gives us freedom to move, love, and worship.”
