Keith Meyer, Executive Pastor
Ask Keith what he does and he’ll reply, “Anything the Senior Pastor won’t do, can’t do, or if he did do we’d be in big doo doo!” Visioning, coaching, and managing explain much of Keith’s role.
This involves a lot of prayerful listening to God for direction, together with the Board and the Executive Management Team. In this way, Keith helps to assure Open Door is on the journey of becoming and making disciples of Jesus Christ, living in Trinitarian love, and learning to do all that Jesus commanded us to do.
Responsibilities for Keith are focused in three main areas:
1. Governing Board of Elders – As a board member, along with the Senior Pastor, Keith is accountable to them for the operating and fulfilling of Open Door’s ministry mission and vision.
2. Executive Management Team – Keith leads and is responsible for the work of the Executive Management Team which also includes the Senior Pastor, Business Administrator, Adult Life Pastor, Family Life Pastor, and Worship Arts Director. They manage the programs and operations of staff and lay leaders.
3. Metro and Global Impact Ministries – Keith represents these ministries on the Executive Management Team. He also leads the combined efforts of these ministries called “Beyond Our Door”.
A pastor’s kid, Keith really came to Christ as a teenager. A graduate of Wheaton College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, he was a Senior Pastor at three churches before coming to Open Door. He “found grace” at Open Door at a time when he was about to quit ministry as a pastor. Also during this time Keith found what following Jesus was really about. Thankful for Dallas Willard’s teaching and friendship, Keith knows now that it’s about living the “good life” of imitating Christ’s life and so knowing an eternal kind of life now even in the midst of life’s pain and joys, by practicing Christ's presence.
This was tested when Keith went through a painful operation on his spine that has left him with continued physical pain. He has found Jesus’ presence and joy to be greater.
Married to Cheri for 29 years, they have two grown children, Kyle and Cara. God’s grace has kept them a close family. They love to be together and laugh.
For the record, Keith has some talent at golf but his talent doesn’t stop there. His annual performance with his band “K-Money and the Open Door All Stars” delights and entertains the staff at Open Door. You see, Keith plays guitar. Quite well actually. Seriously, he can play the first few bars of almost every rock song from the late 60s to early 70s.
