Project Mercy
Project Mercy will continue to provide funding for the ongoing operational cost of the special-needs RahCinDes Home/School in Belize and the Mephibosheth Home/School in Haiti. We are also providing micro-financing for other adults and children in Hopkins, Belize who have special needs.
In 2004, Project Mercy provided funds to build the Ariola family a hurricane-safe home in Hopkins Village. The home also has a school room for Raheem and Destiny, who have brittle-bone disease. Project Mercy will help maintain the home and provide for the educational needs of the school, including a teacher.
In 2005 and 2006, we purchased land and built a fully-equipped special needs home in Port-au-Prince, Haiti for 16 children who are mentally and physically challenged. The residents participate in an educational program as well as receiving sensory therapy through the use of pets, plants and music. Basic care and individual attention is unavailable to the vast majority of children and adults with special needs in Haiti. We hope this home will serve as a model of care.

The Birth of Project Mercy
The vision for Project Mercy was born in 1990 when Steve Hanson, Pastor of Global Impact, began to look for a fundraiser in which everybody in church could give, not just adults but the youngest among us as well. Over a two month period, the community of Open Door collects coins and brings them to church. In its first ten years, Project Mercy funded over 2000 eye surgeries and cleft lip repairs by linking our $200,000 with the Mercy Ships ministry..
