Next Generation

The Next Generation mentoring program is a ministry model that aims to holistically serve students by focusing on their social and spiritual development. The program consists of a mentoring relationship for each 7th-12th grade student and scheduled weekly experiences that consist of either learning environments at Open Door or opportunities to serve in the community.

Programming takes place on Wednesday nights September through May from 7-8:30pm. Middle school and high school students meet at the same time in separate rooms.

Learning environments take place three out of four Wednesdays at Open Door. Mentors and students participate in a variety of different experiences each week, but always have an opportunity to connect one-on-one.

The Content Flow (PDF) was created based on weekly and year-end assessments from the 2010/2011 mentoring year. This year's mentoring year is organized into four units to help holistically strengthen the relationships within the program. Each unit follows three relational threads: God, Others
and Self.

Service environments happen on the third Wednesday of the month starting in November. Mentors and students will rotate between a variety of service organizations each month. Transportation is provided to and from Open Door.

Mentors and students are matched through a three-week process each fall. Mentors and students are divided up by gender and grade in order to get to know each other through facilitated activities and conversation. Students provide feedback each week and mentors provide feedback on the last week to help ensure the best possible matches.
