Mentors and Mentor Coordinators
Mentors
The role of a mentor is to build an intentional relationship with a middle
school or high school student through shared experiences and reflective conversations. Each mentor will also be paired with a mentor coordinator,
who will act as a mentor, coach and resource throughout the mentor/student relationship.
For more information about the role and criteria, check out the
mentor brochure (PDF).
What does a typical week look like?
Weekly Update E-mail: Mentors receive an e-mail on Mondays that provides relevant information and announcements for the week.
Wednesday Night
6:30-7pm: Mentors attend a pre-programming meeting in order to get everyone on the same page for the night and to cover any overarching information, announcements, etc.
7-8:30pm: Next Gen Program
Weekly Feedback Survey: Every Wednesday night, mentors receive a link to a feedback survey that allows them to briefly reflect on the night. The survey results are automatically sent to their mentor coordinator.
How do mentors and mentor coordinators interact?
Mentors and mentor coordinators will be paired up based on geographic location, Middle School vs. High School placement, and personality where possible. At the beginning of the year, mentors and mentor coordinators will create a covenant to clarify expectations and goals for the relationship.
The basic expectation is that mentors and mentor coordinators will meet once
a month to process how things are going between mentor and student, what the mentor is learning or questioning and anything else the mentor would like
to discuss.

Mentor Coordinators
The role of a mentor coordinator is to support and guide mentors as they build intentional relationships with students. Based on availability, each mentor coordinator will be assigned one to three mentors to coach throughout the mentor/student relationship. Mentor coordinators are also the primary contact for parents throughout the year.
For more information about the role and criteria, see the mentor coordinator brochure (PDF).
Monthly Training
Mentor Coordinators are required to attend monthly trainings to engage with each other and learn more about the mentoring relationships in place.
How do mentor coordinators and parents interact?
Once students are matched with mentors, mentor coordinators will receive contact information for the appropriate students. From there, they will contact parents to introduce themselves and clarify their role as the primary point of contact for questions and concerns. In most cases, mentor coordinators will connect with parents again in January and at the end of the year to ensure consistency of communication and closure.
