MEET THE BRICKEYS

We are excited to introduce you to David Brickey – our Lead Pastor candidate! For the past seven years, Dave has served at The Chapela multi-site congregation of 4,500+ people in the northern suburbs of Chicago. He started as Associate Campus Pastor, equipping and mobilizing people in community at the Libertyville Campus before moving into the Campus and Teaching Pastor position at the Grayslake Campus. He currently serves on the Executive Lead Team that oversees all seven campuses, and is on the central Teaching Team, where he works with others in series development as well as being one of the teachers for weekend services. You can see some of Dave’s previous sermons here.

  • DAVE

Dave is passionate about helping others come alive to God and equipping them to practice the way of Jesus in everyday life. He believes Jesus is everything and the local church is a family on a mission worth giving our all too. He enjoys empowering a team, serving with them and doing life with them. He also loves seeing God’s Kingdom break-through in dark places; seeing/hearing/telling the stories and shepherding people to be a force for good in the community. He is a teacher and a shepherd.

What drew Dave to our church is the history and rootedness at Open Door, as well as the focus on spiritual formation.

  • The brickey fam

Dave is married to his high school sweetheart, Stefanie. They have four children – Ava and Sofia (twins age 13), Camille (age 11) and Jude (age 9). After high school, Stefanie pursued a teaching degree from Bethel University; while they lived in MN, she and Dave attended Open Door from time to time. Dave attended Berean School of the Bible in Springfield, MO and has a diploma in Ministerial Studies. He considers himself a life-long student of the Bible.

  • A greeting from the brickeys

Dave and Stefanie recorded a video introducing themselves and sharing their hearts. Take a look here.

  • search team recommendation

Our Search Team recommended Dave to us with a unanimous vote! Watch the video here to hear why they chose to put Dave forward as a candidate.

WEEKEND FAQs

HOW DO I REGISTER TO ATTEND A MEET & GREET EVENT?

Fill out our simple registration form here, select a time to let us know which session you plan to attend. Any children attending with you should be included in your registration number.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY MEASURES YOU ARE TAKING FOR THE IN-PERSON EVENTS?

  • Registration is required for the event  and is limited to 250 people per outdoor event.
  • Upon arrival you will be checked in.
  • We will be outdoors and seating will be designated with socially-distanced markings.
  • We are asking attendees to wear masks anytime they are not in their seat (those with medical conditions are exempt), and bring their own drink receptacles and chairs to attend the event. Voting will also be socially-distanced and outdoors.
  • When entering the building to use the restroom, masks are required (those with medical conditions are exempt), and hand sanitizer is available upon entry and exit.

We suggest that anyone who is at elevated risk or feeling uncomfortable with large gatherings attend the event online. While we are observing all of the appropriate safety guidelines for outdoor worship services, there is a possibility of contracting COVID-19 while attending. Open Door is taking necessary steps to reduce the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus and to protect those in attendance. However, we cannot guarantee we are preventing anyone from being exposed to or contracting COVID-19.

HOW WILL WE MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCING?

You will be checked in and led to a socially-distanced spot by staff and volunteers. Seating will be designated with socially-distanced markings in our parking lot. Voting lines will be marked with social distance in mind.

We are asking you to do your part to help us safely gather and enjoy the service by observing social-distancing. Thank you for helping us welcome our candidate well! We are in this together!

WILL I BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK IF I ATTEND IN-PERSON?

Yes, we ask that anyone age 5+ who attends wear their mask until they are in their seat for the event and anytime they move around, go to the voting area or enter the building to use the restroom. When you are seated in your chair you may remove your mask. We understand some medial and health conditions may prohibit one from wearing a mask. You are still welcome to attend!

Masks are no ones first choice and we understand that this can feel different or awkward for some of us. Yet out of humility, care and kindness for one another we can lovingly create a safe and healthy environment that allows more people to enjoy being together by wearing them. We're aware that some of us are older and some of us have personal or family health dynamics that are immune-compromised. This is a very tangible way we can live out the "for the sake of others" piece of our vision statement. Thank you for practicing this with us as we seek to care well for one another! But again, we understand some medial and health conditions may prohibit one from wearing a mask. You are still welcome to attend!

If masks really aren't your jam, we'd love to have you sign up for the online Meet & Greet!
