SERVE

The world invites us to live our lives for ourselves, but Jesus invites us to live for something far greater.  He calls us to turn our faces outward and live for the sake of others. We call this Missional Life. There are many ways to serve at Open Door and beyond.

MELA school opportunities

Right here in our building, we share space with Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy (MELA). Make a big difference in the lives of some really amazing kids! Each school year, we are looking to love and serve the staff, children, and families of MELA. They are more than our tenant who leases the lower level of our building; they are FAMILY!

Out and About

This summer, Open Door is going out and about to bring God’s love to the world through building relationships, fostering community, and getting to know neighbors. Do you have an idea for a community service project, social gathering, cross cultural event? God is stirring His people to be salt and light to the world. As God prompts you to serve others, let's partner together!

Through some generous donations, Open Door attenders can apply for a micro grant of up to $100 to serve the neighborhoods around the Twin Cities.

Possibilities could include gathering your small group to serve another family in need with repairs, food, yard work. Or, consider hosting a neighborhood block party or patio BBQ.

Projects should be completed before September 2019.

Feed My Starving Children - Coon Rapids

Feed My Starving Children is a nation-wide organization that creates volunteer hand-packed meal packs of soy, rice, and dried vegetables and ships them to partners who reach the neediest children around the world. A group from Open Door will be packing meals together on the second Saturday of each month. You can join us for one time, or as many as you like. You can also shop at the marketplace where you can buy gifts from around the world, and your support helps restore dignity while providing meals for hungry families. Children must be age five and older to participate, and each adult should register separately. Contact: Rose | (763) 498-4001

Partner with us and this community through prayer, attend an annual trip, or through a child sponsorship, and you may even have the possibility to meet your supported child in person. Join our October trip. Contact: Rose

    Trip dates: Oct 12-20

    Cost: Approx. $2000

    Apply by Aug 4

  • Liberia

This 10-12 day trip is the third in a long-term relational commitment to our Liberia family at Mission of Hope for the Disabled (MHD). Disability Motivational Network, Inverted Arts and Open Door are partnering with MHD to bring to life the dreams they have for their community. The heart behind the trip will be to continue building relationships by being present, loving, listening, seeing, learning, discerning, praying, and asking good questions. Our brothers and sisters at MHD are made in God’s image with talents, skills, gifts, abilities, dreams, ideas, and entrepreneurial spirits as well as a passion for Jesus and for one another! Due to the nature of difficulty traveling and limited housing, the team will be small and hand-picked at this time. We hope to expand the number of people and trips as we continue our partnership with MHD.
