SERVE

The world invites us to live our lives for ourselves, but Jesus invites us to live for something far greater.  He calls us to turn our faces outward and live for the sake of others. We call this Missional Life. There are many ways to serve at Open Door and beyond.

MELA Book Drive

Help us collect new books for the students at Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy (MELA) as they kick off their year of literacy next fall. The teachers have put together recommended reading lists for the summer in three grade categories. Open Door hopes to provide at least two books for each of the 180 students who attend school in the lower level of our building. Please, grab a request, purchase a book or more, and drop it off at Open Door by May 19. Then, we will assemble book packs for the students before they head home for the summer.

The book needs will be located in the Gathering Place from May 5-19

Online Amazon wish list purchases should be shipped directly to Church of the Open Door before May 19.

Did you know?

By shopping online, you can donate to Church of the Open Door without spending an extra dime!

For every purchase you make through Amazon’s charitable website, AmazonSmile (the same products and prices!), the company will donate 0.5 percent of your purchase to Church of the Open Door. And even though half of a percent doesn’t sound like much, every bit adds up and helps us to further our mission of inviting people to engage in the struggle of becoming fully alive in God!

DONATING IS AS EASY AS 1-2-3!

  1. Visit smile.amazon.com and log into your regular Amazon.com account.
  2. Type in "Church of the Open Door of the Christian And Missionary Alliance."
  3. Start shopping!

*Note: The official name is connected to our beginnings as a church with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and is attached to our federal tax ID and non-profit 501c3 status. Church of the Open Door has been and remains a non-denominational Christian church since 2002.

It’s that easy – you shop, Amazon gives directly to Church of the Open Door! Get started today!

MELA school opportunities

Right here in our building, we share space with Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy (MELA). Make a big difference in the lives of some really amazing kids! Each school year, we are looking to love and serve the staff, children, and families of MELA. They are more than our tenant who leases the lower level of our building; they are FAMILY!

SERVE Outside Our Doors

Learning to live our lives for the sake of others is a big part of becoming fully alive in God.  We are called to live our lives missionally wherever God leads us - in our families, our neighborhoods, or around the world. Here are some of the organizations where the people of Open Door volunteer.

Liberia

This 10-12 day trip is the third in a long-term relational commitment to our Liberia family at Mission of Hope for the Disabled (MHD). Disability Motivational Network, Inverted Arts and Open Door are partnering with MHD to bring to life the dreams they have for their community. The heart behind the trip will be to continue building relationships by being present, loving, listening, seeing, learning, discerning, praying, and asking good questions. Our brothers and sisters at MHD are made in God’s image with talents, skills, gifts, abilities, dreams, ideas, and entrepreneurial spirits as well as a passion for Jesus and for one another! Due to the nature of difficulty traveling and limited housing, the team will be small and hand-picked at this time. We hope to expand the number of people and trips as we continue our partnership with MHD.
