The world invites us to live our lives for ourselves, but Jesus invites us to live for something far greater.  He calls us to turn our faces outward and live for the sake of others. We call this Missional Life.

Living a missional life includes expanding your heart and mind in Jesus for the sake of others, and growing and educating yourself on God’s grieving and restorative heart for His world and children. Learning to live our lives for the sake of others is a big part of becoming fully alive in God. We are called to live our lives missionally wherever God leads us - in our families, our neighborhoods, or around the world.

LOOKING FOR A WAY TO GET PLUGGED IN NEARBY?

The following opportunities are all located within the Twin Cities metro area.

  • HOSpitality microgrants

We are offering $100 microgrants our Open Door family can use to bring God's love to the world through building relationships, fostering community, and getting to know neighbors through community service projects, social gatherings, cross cultural events, and more. Hospitality and generosity are qualities of Jesus that we desire to be continually growing. Some examples of what you could do to love your neighbors may include: have a BBQ, hand out free popsicles, host a National Night Out on your block, bring donuts to your work, or any other creative ways to love that you come up with – the opportunities are endless! As God prompts you to put action to your vision, apply for a Hospitality Microgrant.

Campers with special needs come to play, worship, learn about Jesus, build relationships and engage in adaptive activities all week long. We’re looking for volunteers who will be caregivers during the week for a camper and for nurses who are willing to volunteer their time for camp to make sure our campers have great care. Serving at Minnesota Camp is more than just volunteering, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to grow in your faith and gain a fresh perspective by spending time with people who have different abilities than you..

    TUESDAY OUTREACH:

Each week Settled (partnering with Walking With A Purpose MN) does outreach (weaving) to homeless camps around St. Paul. They call it "weaving" because through outreach we have our lives and stories interwoven with brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness. During outreach (weaving) you will make new friends, hear stories, learn about the homeless population, give a drink and share survival materials with those living on the streets.

We helped build a home for the first sacred settlement in the Twin Cities (where our own Rose Larson lives!) and now we're praying for more sacred settlements for people who have been homeless. In those settlements they will experience family, hope and restoration.

  • Slovakia MISSIONS TRIP

    June/july  2023

Open Door is joining GoodSports for their summer baseball / sports / English camp in Slovakia. It’s a place where we get to be Jesus with skin on for the youth who come to enjoy a variety of sports, crazy camp games, campfires and conversational English.

Devotional time in the morning is enhanced with music and faith stories at evening chapel. Demonstrating God's love through interaction with campers can be life-changing for young people who often come from families that have rejected the church as a meaningful experience. It's a challenging and exhilarating time in a beautiful part of Slovakia.

    Contact: Tom Johnson | tjohnson@thedoor.org

When: Wednesday, June 28 - Monday, July 10

    Location: Bratislava and Prievidza, Slovakia

Cost: $900 plus the cost of round trip airfare to Vienna, Austria
